I want this for my kitchen--even though the house the kitchen is in is 100 years old.

These are a few of my favorite things...

You might have guessed by now that I really love photography. As I was rummaging around in my Flickr favorite pictures from other photographers, I thought I would share some:

The 1950 House

As I read the phenomenal post about 1950s house museums at my one of my new favorite retro blogs, Retro Renovation , I was reminded of the prettiest 50s house museum I ever visited, the 1950 House at the Shelburne Museum in Stowe, Vermont. It is a fun day-trip if you are already there to ski or site-see, and the Shelburne Museum boasts a lighthouse, a riverboat, and many Colonial buildings featuring quilt and folk art exhibits.

Here are links to my own pics of the house when I visited:

UFT (Unidentified Flying Table?)

If I lived in a restored MCM (mid-century modern) home, would I put this in it? I don't know...it might be too weird even for me ...

He'll Make You an Offer You Can't Refuse!

I live in the coolest area! Just discovered a great antiques shop in Amsterdam, NY called Capone's Vault this weekend. It is actually owned by a guy named Capone who looks like the man himself (I'll save the story of how my fiance's cousin is Al Capone's son for another time!). Anyhoo, got some great deals on kitchenware and birdfeeders, and can't wait to go back. His website is here: Capone's Vault.

Life is Swell at the Shady Dell!

As seen in that perennially cheery mag, Everyday With Rachel Ray, The Shady Dell in Brisbee, Arizona is THE retro place to stay when you're out west. It is in a restored 1949 trailer park. Brisbee is, as the Shady Dell people say on their site, "...a mile-high historic copper mining town in the Mule Mountains, a stone's throw from the Mexican border. Founded in 1880, Bisbee was home to the famous and infamous, and was considered to be the hottest spot between El Paso and San Francisco." This cool resort has fully restored Airstreams and other trailers to stay in while seeing the wild west. The rates are very reasonable, between $45 and $145 a night. And there is bebop playing as you walk in the door! Trailers are equipped with phonographs. And if you get hungry, there is also a quaint diner in a refurbished Airstream nearby. I can't wait to visit!

Their website is here: The Shady Dell.

Luck favors the rich

Oh, to be among the rich, like my nouveau-riche coworker (did I mention she won $18 million recently in the NYS Lottery?!?!)...Sigh...

What spurred these thoughts? An article on someone else's blog about Doris Duke, surfer, jazz musician, philanthropist extraordinaire. A movie is being done with Susan Sarandon about her life. Here is the standout stand-in for her estate:
