British Pathe--Reliving History Through Film

British Pathe, The World's First Digital News Archive, is an archive of 3,500 hours of historic news footage. These were the films shown before a feature at the cinema back when two films and a cartoon were only a nickel, and you could stay all day. Since the site closely guards its copyrights, I can't show you any embedded videos here. But visit the site to experience everything from the 20s revolution to the Hippie revolution. One notable video on 1920s women's careers and fashion is here: Time to Remember--Teenage Flapper, 1920.

Calling all antiques dealers for advice!

antique store
Originally uploaded by Robin100

This month, I will officially join the ranks of the nation's antiques dealers. I just rented a little 6' x 10' booth at an antiques mall near my home town. Since I specialize in vintage linens and kitchenware, hopefully my space will feature a lot of Pyrex, Lustroware, melamine dishes...you get the idea. Apparently, I will have free reign to decorate what is basically a little room all to itself. I was thinking of going with a red and white kitchen theme, or with a tropical barkcloth theme. I am so excited and a little nervous, I can't wait to get started!

Do any veteran antiques dealers, retro decorators, or any of my dear readers have sage words of advice for someone just starting out? You know, what to do, what not to do, what you typically like to see when you go antiques shopping? Any fun booth decorating ideas? Thanks, guys and gals!

SoCal Mod Art

Sarah Stephens paints googie Southern California landmarks on matchbooks, cigarette boxes, and other "found" materials. From her website bio:

"Sarah is a recent graduate of ArtCenter College of Design. She enjoys being driven around the suburbs of Southern California and taking pictures of buildings and signs. These pictures become paintings, which is her way to document places that she fears will be replaced by condos or parking lots. Sarah enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going to Disneyland, and taking care of her elderly English Cocker Spaniel."

You can find her art here: Sarah Stephens Illustration.
As originally read about on the Argot and Ochre blog.
To inquire about buying her work, go here: Black Maria Gallery.
