Woman of the Year

I just watched Katherine Hepburn in Woman of the Year and fell in love with the scene where Hepburn, as Tess, fearless city desk reporter, cooks her husband breakfast in a typical 40s kitchen. She almost blows up the coffeepot and the waffles bubble over and the toast goes flying everywhere because she can't cook and has never been domestic but is trying to please him anyway. That scene is endearing and infuriating at once, because she is such a strong woman who acts no different than a man, but who nevertheless is expected to follow 1940s wifely conventions. And, on a more superficial note, I own the same canisters, toaster, mix-master, etc as in that divine movie kitchen. I have to find a copy of this movie!!

If you love Hepburn...come be a Founding Fan of her theater that's about to open in Hepburn's beloved seaside town of Old Sayrook, Connecticut.

The scene you you descibe with the toaster, waffle maker and coffee is a "favorite" of mine also! It always makes me laugh.

If you looked at my earlier work from 1980 to 1988 titled: "The Family of Appliances You Can Believe In" it is evident that I love early domestic appliances as much as you do. Some of the Appliances can be seen at the link below, scroll down to the bottom of the page: http://www.harriete-estel-berman.info/sculpt/Sculpt.html

I love this movie! The chemistry between those two is amazing, especially in this one. I love the kitchen scene too, and the kitchen itself, of course ;)
