Calling all antiques dealers for advice!

This month, I will officially join the ranks of the nation's antiques dealers. I just rented a little 6' x 10' booth at an antiques mall near my home town. Since I specialize in vintage linens and kitchenware, hopefully my space will feature a lot of Pyrex, Lustroware, melamine dishes...you get the idea. Apparently, I will have free reign to decorate what is basically a little room all to itself. I was thinking of going with a red and white kitchen theme, or with a tropical barkcloth theme. I am so excited and a little nervous, I can't wait to get started!

Do any veteran antiques dealers, retro decorators, or any of my dear readers have sage words of advice for someone just starting out? You know, what to do, what not to do, what you typically like to see when you go antiques shopping? Any fun booth decorating ideas? Thanks, guys and gals!

How exciting! My mother used to rent space to sell her antiques years ago - my best word of advice as antique mall regular is try to make your booth exciting but not too over whelming. Let your merchandise be the focal point, not the decorations. You want the buyer to be drawn to your space but come to see your items not just the displays! GOOD LUCK!!

I think it's just GREAT that you are embarking on a booth for vintage and antique items! I like all of your decorating ideas but especially the barkcloth! Any time I see a booth with barkcloth I run rather than walk. It sets the stage for all of your other treasures. Good luck!!! Have fun with it!

I love to see lots of color, great retro kitchen items, and nice displays...not too cluttered.

Thank you for the input, Hotrocks! I do have lots of colorful retro kitchen items, so the challenge will be to display them in innovative ways.

You know, I did this exact same thing years ago. My approach was to just go in once a week and "play house". I would just be a little girl again setting up my kitchen however I wished. I had so much fun with it...I know that you will enjoy it too!
